Spring is here and that means it’s time to get those green fingers of yours flapping around again! So roll up your sleeves and get ready to dig, because we’re going to make a terrarium with plants in 7 steps! You know, one like our Bruno. Well, believe it or not, you can do it all yourself. All you need: a big glass jar with a cork, mini plants and some moss.
OK, OK, maybe we lied a little bit. You’ll also need active charcoal, potting soil and a tray of pebbles. Gathered everything? Let’s fiddle!
Making a plant terrarium
Step 1: Soaping up
Remove the cork from the pot and clean the inside. Grandma says the best way to do that is with some green soap and what grandmothers say is true. So: soak it up! Rinse it off with hot water, let it dry and it is good to go.
Step 2: Dumping pebbles
Cover the bottom of the terrarium with a layer of small pebbles. This does not only look nice, it also provides for drainage. Of course, we do not want your green amigos to get their feet wet in their new home.
Step 3: Add charcoal
Active charcoal, but why? This ensures that no mould and other nasties get into your terrarium. At least you don’t have to worry about that! Crumble the charcoal, so that you can put a nice layer over the pebbles. It can be a bit of a mess, so you might want to take off your wedding ring and make sure you haven’t just put on new fake nails.
